The Tiger Lillies are returning to Zagreb
After more than 13 years, the London experimental rock trio The Tiger Lillies is returning to Zagreb, and below we present a brief history of this interesting band
The Tiger Lillies were formed in 1989 in London after singer-songwriter Martyn Jacques placed an advertisement in the newspaper seeking a drummer and a bassist to start a band. The only two individuals who responded became the band’s first members, and according to Martyn, an image on his wall served as inspiration for the band’s name.
The band won the prestigious Olivier Theatre Award in 2002, and “The Gorey End” was nominated for a Grammy in the Best Crossover Album category. They are highly prolific when it comes to official releases, having amassed more than 40 in their 35-year career, and have appeared in numerous films and television shows, as well as releasing several books.
In the spring of 2012, Adrian Huge decided to take a break and was replaced by drummer Mike Pickering, and in early 2015, Pickering was replaced by Jonas Golland. By the end of 2021, the band had recruited their current drummer, Budi Butenop.
These masters of the bizarre in music like to describe themselves as “Brechtian punk cabaret,” and you can find out why on Saturday, May 11th at Kino SC! You can buy tickets at link
