Performances on ZKM part two
Zagreb Youth Theatre stands out as one of the more dynamic Croatian and regional theaters. From children’s performances to those intended for adults, ZKM has positioned itself as a key player in the European theater scene, emphasizing contemporary interpretations of classics and European dramatic literature. Tickets are now available for the first time through our platform, and below is a brief overview of the performances.
Gran Bolero
Gran Bolero is an adaptation and enhancement of a performance originally created for six dancers from Barcelona and six from Madrid, whose performances captivated critics and earned numerous awards. This time, six dancers from Zagreb and six from Ljubljana come together to dedicate themselves to a collective dance, bringing to life Ravel’s timeless score.

The Cherry Orchard
This touching, layered, and powerful comedy introduces a series of vibrant characters from different generations at a time of significant social change, juxtaposing through them the old and the new, material and spiritual, real and metaphysical, dramatic and poetic.
I Am the One I Am Not
“I Am the One I Am Not,” directed by Paolo Magelli, is based on the text by Mate Matešić, specifically written for the ZKM. The structure of the play follows three one-acts – Croatian Lolita, Porn Film, and Woman-Girl, connecting the main female characters. Despite the initially realistic tone of the text, director and dramaturge Željka Udovičić opt for a deeper exploration of the inner worlds of the three women, courageously creating new identities that exist beyond brutal reality.
Black Mother Earth
The play explores power, violence, and social responsibility. Through the story of a school trip and the horrors of video games, it raises questions about individual responsibility in a social context.
Guest Performance at ZKM: “Mother and Child” - Istrian National Theatre
“Mother and Child” is one of the earlier dramatic texts by the exceptional Norwegian author Jon Fosse, whose simple yet simultaneously monumental title remarkably and precisely defines a powerful duodrama about the attempt at communication in one of the most complex relationships two people can have – that of a mother and her offspring.
House Bolero
On the occasion of the sixtieth anniversary of the Contemporary Dance Studio, seven dancers, through their engagement with the body, physical presence, and a passion for dance, inevitably create new implications: their choreography becomes a force that questions the boundless field of normalization.

Light Falls
The drama “Light Falls,” both cruel and tender, is a portrayal of a dysfunctional family scattered across Northern England. Simultaneously, it serves as a profound meditation on the meaning of life, which becomes most poignant in proximity to death. The narrative is driven by the internal dialogue of a woman in her fifties, at the moment she unexpectedly dies from a stroke—a moment that subsequently shifts out of the chronological sequence, connecting the situations of her two daughters, son, and husband.
